The Democratic Convention

Today Barack Obama became the first true African American (father from Kenya, mother from Kansas) to be nominated for the presidency of the United States of America. Although it has been suggested that there were six previous "Black" presidents elected to this position, Obama is the first to openly acknowledge his heritage.

Hillary Clinton officially released her delegates to Barack Obama this afternoon before a roll call vote could be held despite protests from some of her supporters in the delegation crowd. This paved the way for Obama to gain full support from the Democratic Party without the lingering "bitterness" over a hard fought primary campaign between the two candidates.

Tonight Bill Clinton put the final stamp of approval on the Obama nomination that the "family feud" was over with a rousing endorsement of the candidate. He left no doubt where the Clintons stand on this issue while Hillary and Michelle Obama proudly cheered him on. The biggest moment of his speech was his endorsement of Joe Biden as Obama's running mate. Once again, the party is united.
